Google App Engine!

I just created my first application with Google App Engine, its now available on a http://guestbookworm.appspot.com and soon http://guestbook.worm.me.uk

This is essentially just the tutorial that google provide in their getting started guide. It seems really simple, (for a developer atleast) and provides amazing access to googles back-end data-centers to create and host even the most demanding of web-applications.

The free google app engine account, provides limits, but obviously when app engine is finally released these will be removed, or atleast upgradeable.

Applications are written in Python, obviously interface designers will be using the usual HTML/CSS and Ajax tools, but behind the scenes is Python.

Comparing it with the PHP/MySQL model, essentially PHP is replaced by Python, and MySQL is replaced with google data-centers. The query language is SQL like, called gSQL.

Well its quite a nice concept, essentially it allows anyone to write applications for a cloud computing environment. This guestbook application certainly doesn’t need a cloud to support it, but other applications would.

I wonder what other people will create out of this, time to think of some crazy ideas. :D
